This piece was intended to show the emotions of perseverance, determination, and stubbornness. The horse’s build was inspired by the Belgian draft horse, a breed known for being determined and powerful yet gentle. I chose to make this piece in oils so that I could have a better ability to push the light and dark sections of the horse's form with the lighting that was used. I wanted to have the option to manipulate the paint without worrying about it drying out or setting up, thus oils were chosen. I want the viewer to be able to see the strength and power that these horses have and be able to experience some of the work that the horses had that helped build the world we have today.
